The Board of Directors at Oregon Camp Cedarbrook plays a crucial role in the overall leadership and strategic direction of the camp. Comprised of dedicated volunteers, the Board works collaboratively with the Camp Director to ensure the camp’s mission is upheld and that all campers have a meaningful, safe, and transformative experience.
What the Board Does
The Board of Directors is responsible for overseeing the camp, ensuring it remains financially healthy, and maintaining a focus on its mission to provide a nurturing environment for youth to grow, learn, and build lasting friendships. Board members actively participate in:
- Strategic Planning: The Board helps shape the long-term vision for Oregon Camp Cedarbrook, ensuring that the camp evolves to meet the changing needs of its campers and community.
- Financial Oversight: Board members are involved in ensuring the camp’s financial stability, reviewing budgets, and fundraising strategies to support scholarships, programs, and improvements, as needed.
- Policy Development: The Board sets the policies that govern camp operations, ensuring that the camp runs smoothly and in compliance with all regulations.
- Fundraising & Community Engagement: Board members are vital in leading fundraising initiatives and engaging with the community to raise awareness and support for the camp.
How the Board Operates
The Board of Directors operates through a series of regular meetings throughout the year. These meetings are where key decisions are made, strategies are reviewed, and goals are set. In addition to full Board meetings, there may be smaller committees focused on specific areas like finance, fundraising, and programming.
- Committees: The Board has several working committees, each dedicated to a specific aspect of camp operations (e.g., fundraising, camp programming, marketing, fundraising, etc.). Committee’s are chaired by Board members who have particular expertise or interest in those areas. Anyone can serve on a committee, you don’t have to be a board member to be on a committee. - Terms & Elections: Board members typically serve for a set term for 3 years, with the possibility of re-election, with a maximum of 2 terms before a required sabbatical. New Board members are selected through a nomination process, ensuring that the Board remains diverse, active, and committed to the camp’s mission.
- Volunteer Commitment: Being a Board member at Oregon Camp Cedarbrook is a volunteer position, and members are expected to actively participate in Board meetings, committee work, and fundraising initiatives. While it’s a significant time commitment, it offers a rewarding opportunity to have a direct impact on the future of the camp.
